Formal assessments

Formal assessments typically measure the child or young adult’s cognitive (intellectual) abilities and also measure the individual’s literacy and numeracy skills.

The clinic-based assessments take place in our Harley Street Consulting Rooms or in our hospital clinics in Oxford or Exeter. In our hospital clinics, there are waiting-room facilities (newspapers, tea, coffee) for adults/parents accompanying children and young adults.

Our school-based assessments follow exactly the same procedure but can be particularly useful for young people who would be anxious in a clinical setting or for whom attending a hospital clinic proves difficult for parents to arrange.

A full formal assessment will usually take about 1.5 - 2 hours and immediate feedback is available at the end of the session. The assessment is always conducted on a 1:1 basis
